#7: LOVE LETTER TO THE EARTH

by

Writing a love letter to the earth is one of my favorite experiences to do, and introduce to others, as a way to develop a deeper friendship with her.

Thich Nhat Hahn, a Buddhist peace activist, published a beautiful book called ‘Love Letters to the Earth.’ He includes messages expressing appreciation to the earth and deeply touching thoughts expressing the need to honor the Earth’s presence more in our lives.

How do you begin? What does this experience look like? There’s no one single best recipe, but here are some thoughts to get you started:

  1. Find a place where you can focus on your connection with the earth, being with her, a place that will open your heart. Find something to touch or smell, sink into the fact that you are made from her and that your life exists because she exists.
  2. You can express this love letter from simply speaking the messages to the earth out loud or silently, in written form, or through artistic expression.
  3. The main part of this is that you give her time, your love, and appreciation.

Try it out and if you feel comfortable, post something from your letter or experience below! Feel free to also post an image!
